Essential District Returns & Exchanges Policy

Effective Date:
Effective 24 February 2025, Essential District accepts returns and exchanges in accordance with the South African Consumer Protection Act (CPA).

Customers may return eligible items within 14 days of delivery for a refund or exchange, subject to the conditions below. Customers are responsible for return shipping costs unless the return is due to a defect or error on our part.

Eligibility & Conditions

To qualify for a return or exchange:

  • Items must be unworn, unwashed, unused, undamaged, and returned with all original tags and packaging
  • Proof of purchase is required

Category-Specific Conditions

Tops & Dresses:
Must be free of makeup, deodorant, or other stains.

Shoes:
Must be tried on indoors (preferably on carpet). Shoe boxes form part of the product and must be returned intact.

Swimwear & Lingerie:
Must be tried on over underwear and returned with the protective hygiene seal intact.

Beauty Products:
Returns are accepted only if products are unused, unopened, and in their original sealed packaging.


Nutritional Products (Non-Refundable)

For health, safety, and hygiene reasons, all nutritional products, supplements, ingestible items, and wellness consumables are strictly non-refundable and non-exchangeable, unless:

  • The product is defective, expired, or
  • An incorrect item was supplied

This is in accordance with Section 20(2)(c) of the Consumer Protection Act.


Final Sale Items

Items marked FINAL SALE are not eligible for refund, exchange, or store credit, unless they are defective as defined by the CPA.


Defective or Incorrect Items (CPA Rights)

Under the CPA, customers are entitled to a repair, replacement, or refund if goods are defective, unsafe, or not fit for purpose within 6 months of delivery.

If you receive a defective or incorrect item, please contact us immediately so we can resolve the issue promptly at no additional cost to you.


International Returns

Essential District does not cover the cost of international returns unless the item is defective or incorrect.

We strongly recommend using a tracked shipping method.

Please retain your tracking number until the return is confirmed as received.


Refund Process

  • Returns are processed within 3–10 business days of receipt and inspection
  • Once approved, a refund confirmation email will be sent
  • Refunds may take several additional business days to reflect, depending on your bank or payment provider
  • Shipping fees, including expedited shipping, are non-refundable

Returns Sent in Error

If an item not purchased from Essential District is returned in error, please contact us immediately. While we will attempt to assist in recovery, Essential District accepts no liability for non-Essential District items sent to us.
